Jane Brimblecombe

Jane is a multi-media artist specialising in mirror mosaic, with work in local and international private collections, hotels, businesses and homes around the world.

Jane works from her home studio in Miramar, near the sea she loves. Born in Wellington, she has always had an interest in the arts which she first recognised at the age of two, and has painted, potted, sculpted and made jewellery throughout her life.

She is probably best recognised for her hand-cut mosaic mirrors, but continues to develop her sculpting and painting. Her work is progressing and has become more as she first envisaged, as wall jewellery and glass art, maximising the play of light.  Jane’s main inspiration comes from the sea and music. She is a member of rock band Underwire, a singer, songwriter and published poet. Her work is influenced by the flow and rhythm of Hokusai and the symmetry of Art Deco. Jane likes to create works that are uplifting and celebrate light.

Jane has exhibited her work since 1999 and had her first solo at the NZ Academy of Fine Arts in 2001. She has featured in many group exhibitions including those of the Academy and Shelly Bay artists. Jane is an Elected Artist Member of the Academy and former curator/exhibitions manager.

Jane’s work is in New York, Canada, Australia, London and Europe. Commissions and sales include works for The British High Commission in Wellington, 14 pieces for the Museum Hotel Apartments, Goethe Institute, local and international celebrities, and numerous private commissions and collections. In 2012 her work sold to the James Wallace Art Trust for the permanent collection. In 2019 Jane completed a major commission for the Wellington Airport Rydges Hotel, a 3 x 6 metre mosaic mirror glass wall depicting pre European Wellington.
